Kaplan Kirsch & Rockwell congratulates Louisville Regional Airport Authority for receiving the 2020 Jay Hollingsworth Speas Award for their airport area safety program. The Louisville Regional Airport Authority (LRAA) won the award for seeking to maintain operational capabilities while enhancing community relations with neighborhoods and reducing environmental impacts of obstruction mitigation at Bowman Field.
The Bowman Field Airport Area Safety Program was set up to mitigate trees and other vegetative obstructions with minimal impact to Bowman Field’s neighboring property owners while maintaining safety for its pilots. Focusing on improving community relationships and the environment around Bowman Field demonstrated LRAA’s commitment to the airport users and its neighbors.
Kaplan Kirsch & Rockwell is proud to have represented LRAA as legal and strategic counsel for this project. This included assistance with the preparation of an Environmental Assessment and the successful defense of litigation challenging the environmental documentation.
The Jay Hollingsworth Speas Airport Award was established in 1983 and honors an individual or individuals that have contributed to the enhancement of relationships between airports and the communities they serve through exemplary innovation. The award is co-sponsored by the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA), the American Association of Airport Executives (AAAE), and the Airport Consultants Council (ACC).
